About 3.5% of people meet the diagnostic criteria for a psychotic disorder, and Elisa Lam was one of them. Elisa Lam was 22 years old when she was found dead in a water tank on the Cecil Hotel roof. Visitors had filed complaints to the management about receiving black water, which later led to the discovery of Elisa Lam's decomposing body. Elisa Lam died of a mysterious death caused by a psychotic episode, which is proven by her past medical history, video surveillance, and her behavior before death. Manic episodes come with delusions, paranoia, hallucinations, and possible psychosis. Another big piece of support for the fact that Eliisa died due to a psychosis episode is elevator video surveillance. Before her disappearance, Elisa was seen acting odd in an elevator surveillance video dating back to January 31. The video shows her cautiously looking out of the elevator, hiding inside, jumping in and out, and even talking to an unseen creature. Elisa was hallucinating from a threat and was trying to run from the threat; she seemed highly paranoid and uneasy. All of her behaviors in the video showed that she was in psychosis. Now, let’s talk about Elisa’s behavior before her disappearance. When Elisa first checked into Cecil Hotel, she was in a shared room with other guests. Two days later, she was moved to another room due to her roommate's complaints. Her roommates complained to management that Elisa's bizarre behavior scared them and made them uncomfortable.
