“Do not make me call your name a third time!” Collin’s mother said.

Collin held his breath, motionless, eyes wide open. He wouldn’t go without a fight this time.

“You have until three to get out here, Collin! If I have to come upstairs and find you, you’re going to be in big trouble! One,two,three! That’s it!” Collin’s mother yelled.

Collin’s heart raced as he heard his mother’s footsteps getting louder. He was starting to deeply regret hiding in the same spot he used last time. Why not under the bed? Why not in the cupboard? Why—

“Got you!” his mother shouted as she swung open the closet door.

Collin yelped in surprise and tried to make a run for it. He was an easy catch, though, and his mother scooped him up in one swift move. …show more content…

“Excuse me?!” His mother yelled, “If you ever call me by my first name again you will be grounded until you are thirty!”

“You can’t do that!” Collin demanded.

“Oh yes I can, and why are you so scared it’s only a bath, you are so over reactant, jeez.” His mother exaggerated.

Collin froze as he saw the bathroom come in sight and began to tremble. His mother shut the door behind them and began running both taps.

“No!” Collin screamed as his mother unscrewed the lid to the bubbles for a bubble bath. “I need to be able to see!”

“Fine!” his mother snapped. “Just get clean, It has been two days since you last took a bath. This is ridiculous. You’re way too old for this. You have ten minutes. Not a minute more, not a minute less.”

Collin felt his stomach lurch into his throat as his mother plopped him into the water and walked away, shaking her head and muttering something about hosing him down in the backyard next time. His eyes immediately fell on the drain. All seemed normal, calm, and quiet—but that was how it had seemed last
