Lisa Delpit in Chapter 4 was questioning, What Should Teachers Do? Delpit was arguing as an educator that you shouldn’t force a child to speak English that’s from another country or culture. Constantly forcing the child will cause a gap in a relationship with the student; destroying confidence of learning and questioning or possibly even disrespecting. “On The Subway” by Sharon Olds In “On the Subway” by Sharon Olds, she explains and gives insights of the experiences she encounters between both worlds ( people without color and colored people), using literary devices such as: tone,imagery, and poetic devices. First, the author uses poetic devices such as metaphor and allusion, to give insights on the contrasts of both worlds . She uses metaphor to describe the way they took in each other’s appearance: “I look at his raw face and he looks at my fur coat. ”By comparing his “face” to being “raw” shows the sufferings and hardships the boy goes through. Her “fur coat” shows destruction because the fur comes out of animal skin.

She supports the media can shape our understanding and influence perceptions. Watt highlights to rid ourselves of influenced perceptions we need to not only critically look analyze visual media constructions but “a willingness to situate ourselves in relation to stories being told in the media.” She concludes visual perceptions play a great deal on our influences, social relationships, and actions. As Robbins has stated in Annie Leonard’s Story of Stuff video she presented a claim. This claim is presented to the audience using three appeals, logic, ethics, and emotion. In this essay I will try to analyze Leonard’s claim and the way she used the three main rhetorical devices, ethical appeal, emotional appeal, and appeal to logic.
In this passage, the author of the book, Veronica Roth, uses the word “decide” repeatedly. This word is of great significance to the development of the storyline by emphasizing the major impact Beatrice’s choice will have on the rest of her life. Beatrice, or Tris, is the main character of the story. The author makes the reader feel a sense of anxiety for Tris by accentuating how many things in her life will change or be at stake after she makes the decision of what her new faction will be. The rest of her family is in the Abnegation faction, so if she chooses any other faction such as Dauntless, Amity, Candor,or Erudite, she will abandon her family forever.
In Tony Cade Bambara’s short story “The Lesson”- the main character Sylvia is a young African-American girl who lives in New York’s inner city. Sylvia, her cousin Sugar, and five other children live in an impoverished neighborhood. Miss Moore, who is also African-American, moves into the neighborhood and takes it upon herself to educate these children because she went to college. One of the lessons Miss Moore teaches the children is about money, so she takes them to a toy store on Fifth Ave. The two settings in this story, the impoverished inner-city neighborhood and Fifth Ave, help explain Sylvia’s journey of her education and awareness of economic inequality.
Adam B. Summers builds an argument to persuade his audience be first mentioning the increase of health problems, that people use plastic bags more than one way, and a huge loss of jobs. He mentions that several studies have found that plastic bag bans lead to increased health problems, due to food contamination from bacteria that remains in the reusable bags. He also mentions that there was a subsequent spike in hospital emergency room visits due to E. Coli, salmonella, and campylobacter-related intestinal infectious diseases. To really make the reader think deeply into it, he says many deaths have been caused as a result of this.
The use of plastic bags has been debated for years. Some people prefer to use them, and others would rather use substitutes, and most have their personal reasons why they lean one way or the other in the argument. In this article, the author addresses why he believes plastic bags should not be banned. The author, Adam B. Summers, uses various literary tools and appeals throughout his article, "Bag Ban Bad for Freedom and Environment," to support his argument that banning plastic bags would do more harm than good. Logical appeal is the most frequently used literary device in the passage.

To elaborate on this topic, despite the fact that Americans are recycling a good amount, the materials they are recycling are not being sold in stores. While it is common to believe that this is not a valid reason to be educated on recycling, if Americans do not know that the items the are recycling are not being sold, then how can they fix this issue. After examining the quote, one will realize that unless people do something about it, recycled items will not be used in stores and will go to waste, therefore prompting the point that Americans need to be informed more on recycling. All in all, Americans unquestionably need to be educated more on this very important topic because of most if not all Americans do not have idea what goes on in the recycling process, the majority of Americans are recycling entirely wrong, and most stores are not taking recycled items to sell and an exceeding amount of people do not know this.
Everyday people buy plastic things from the cafeteria, from plastic containers, lids on cups, and things as small as straws, and like 50% of plastic used it will be thrown away after one use. However, do you ever stop and think, what happens to the plastic? If you’re thinking that it just magically goes away you 're wrong. It will most likely end up in a landfill somewhere or in the ocean, and as you may think that your actions do not impact the world, think again. Everyone in the world has at least used one piece of plastic, adding to the problem of plastic pollution and helping certifying the terrifying statisticc that acooording to the 2018 Earth day video, “by 2050 there will more plastic in the ocean than fish”, which almost is impossible to think of.
Look around, and try to find an everyday object that is not made out of plastic. You should find only a few. Plastic takes up more than 75% of our everyday items… And humans are facing the pollution that plastic is causing to the earth. There isn 't a realistic solution to this, because plastic is used in automobile tires, and also is used in electronic devices, silicon etc.
