The first difference that I have immediately noticed is that the story starts out in the middle at Frank’s funeral, but the movie starts out in a field. Another difference in the movie is the absence of Frank's sister, Cathleen and older brother, Steve who we read about in the story. " Next day Steve drove with his wife back to Baltimore where he managed the branch office of a bank, and Cathleen, the middle child, drove with her husband back to Syracuse." (p. 80) Moreover, in both versions the characters have different jobs, for example Matt owns a store in the story.

The setting of the movie is the first obvious difference that can be seen. The movie was set in New York City, New York in 2000 while the play was set in Elsinore, Denmark in the late middle ages. This greatly affects the way the movie is viewed because it is essentially an entirely different world. In the movie there are video cameras, cars, phones and skyscrapers, all things that obviously weren’t around during Shakespeare’s time. Even if the movie and the play had been based in the same year, the story still would have been slightly different.

Number 2, In Anne’s diary it said that she kept all of her thoughts and everything that she saw in there. So if mr. Van Daans stealing of the bread wasn’t in the diary then it must not have happened. So they had to make it up to add more action to the story/play. They also could’ve just put the stealing in there just to symbolize the meaning and how it was such a bad thing to steal the food.

Another difference would be the way the short stories were ordered. In the book, the stories were told in no perceptible order, making it hard to remember who is whose daughter/mother etc. The movie begins with a party which all the characters attend, and the stories are disclosed as the character is thinking about it. The mother and daughter’s stories are staged after one another. The movie allows for a more natural way of telling the story, and makes it easier to remember the characters and associate mothers with daughters.
The Diary of Anne Frank I attended the play The Diary of Anne Frank on November 14, 2016. The play was at 7:30 pm at the Fowler Center in Jonesboro. I am very familiar with the story, but have never seen it adapted into a play.
Firstly, in my opinion I think it has more details than the movie. The book has the same characters but in the book there is three sisters. The book had details that felt so real. It described everything, the setting and the mood.
The Author wrote this book as a diary for herself to keep her personal thoughts and ideas to herself. Anne Frank was also known for her some of her short stories she wrote. This book wasn't originally published by her, instead was published by her father after the war. The literary perspective was put into third person and second and it continuously switched through the story being hard to follow what perspective at times.
