Diego Rivera is one of the most well-known artists from the 20th century. With a focus in Mexican muralism, Rivera was known for his large-scale public art. At the young age of 3, is when Diego began creating art and murals. After a tragic death of his twin brother at age 2, Diego realized art was his way of coping with life. As a toddler, he was often caught drawing on the walls of his family home. However, instead of punishing Diego, his parents accepted his creativity and provided him with the necessary equipment. At age 10, Diego started studying art at Mexico City’s Academy of San Carlos. This was just the beginning for Diego Rivera (www.diegorivera.com).
In 1907, Diego traveled to Madrid, Spain to continue his education. During this time was when Diego befriended several famous artists, such as Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian and Marc Chagall. Then in 1909 he moved to Paris, France where he continued his travels and experimented with his individual style and technique. It was during this time that Diego fell in love with mural painting. He believed that all people, not just those that can afford to go to fancy museums, should enjoy his artwork (www.diegorivera.com).

Diego met Frida while he was teaching art, Frida was 20 years younger. Rivera was married to his second wife when he met, and fell in love with Frida. Many people referred to their relationship as an elephant and a dove. Thus meaning, Rivera’s big personality, and stature made him an elephant. While Kahlo’s soft appearance resembled a dove. Their relationship had many ups and downs. Most famously, Rivera was caught having an affair with Kahlo’s sister Christine.
