Dietary fat and breast cancer Breast cancer is major health issue among women. On average, every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer and one woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes. (Nbcf) What if a change in eating habits can prevent the development of breast cancer? Around 40,500 women died from breast cancer in 2016, which was six percent of all cancer deaths. Breast cancer death rates has gradually declined in the past years, and it’s predicted to continue to decline. Diet is in some way responsible for cancer, but it certainly does not mean it is the cause of cancer, or it can cure cancer. Some studies have shown that people who consume more saturated fat are more likely develop breast cancer than people who consumes less. (Doheny) However, eating more foods with saturated fat is not the cause of breast cancer. Saturated fats are fats that comes from animals, but it isn’t only animal fats that is saturated, vegetable oils such as palm oil is high in saturated fat. Environmental factor plays a huge part in people who developed breast cancer that does not have a family history with breast cancer. Based on evidence from experiments conducted, people living in industrialized countries are more likely to develop breast cancer, and people who lives in non-industrialized places. This is because of all the synthetic chemicals that is in the products we consume and use daily. A major chemical we get exposed to is BPA which is found in plastic products.
