Civil rights and civil liberties are granted to the people as per the Constitution. Civil rights pertain to equal treatment of an individual regardless of age, gender, race, and disability. Civil rights refer to positive actions of government should take to create equal conditions for all Americans. Civil liberties include freedoms and basic rights are guaranteed. Civil liberties would be freedom of speech, right to vote, and etc. “Civil rights are those that are granted by a government for the protection of its citizens in respect to guaranteeing fairness and checking discrimination. Civil liberties are the basic rights guaranteed to all citizens in a country without any further specialty. The difference between the two is looking at what right is affected and who right is affected.”(Hudson, 2002)
