Difference Between 'Deep Survival And Laurence Gonzales Is Survival Selfish'

Imagine falling from a height so high that even the bravest get scared. Imagine hiding under a table hoping that nothing happens to you. Imagine running but not knowing where to run to. All of these things happen every day. In “Deep Survival”,” Anne Frank”, and, “Is Survival Selfish”, each story portrays how survival is a choice. The difference between each one is how people choose to react. Survival is a choice because of having a goal, making smart choices, and how important it is to keep pushing forward.

In Deep Survival, the author Laurence Gonzales, shows how important it is to keep pushing forward. During the world trade center , Ronald DiFrancesco was amongst one of the many people who encountered people struggling to breath due to the fatigue and smoke. He slowly started to collapse and then thought to himself, “ I’ve got to see my wife and kids again”. ( Gonzales 269) Ronald thought of something that was important to him to keep him going. He knew that he had to keep pushing forward for his loved ones. Throughout Anne Frank, Anne keeps pushing forward even though it was the hardest thing she has ever had to go through. In Deep Survival, the author talks about her experience during the Mountain Shepherd Survival School with Byron Kerns.(Laurence). The author decided to attend this school to be prepared for anything that may happen. It may have been scary for her but it may determine how her future will end up. “Helping someone is the best way to ensure your own survival’(252). During this section Kerns explains one of the many ways to react during a crisis. He teaches all of the citizens that attended the school how focusing on someone else’s good can benefit yourself. By attending this school, the author and many others have benefited
