Harriet points out her difference from any other slave narrative in the beginning of the narrative. the difference that she points out is that she is a women. What makes this significant is that at this time, there were no tells of a slave girl and the hard life they lead. Harriet believed slave girls had worse time in slavery. I can compare this to 12 years a slave, a young slave woman was raped, and she could do nothing about it. The black slave girl had no say in any matter.
Every year slaves had to endure changes they had no say under. During January each year during slavery, slaves were bought and sold. Some families were torn up which makes life hard for slave girls. She had to stay hidden in her grandmother's house with a promise of escape. She also escaped from places in the book multiple times to ensure her and her childrens safety. The church and slavery had multiple meanings also. This could have been a way for blacks to get connected with christianity. It can also be seen as a brainwashing tool. or it could be seen as a way to take Africans away from their heritage.
Harriet did not like this time in her life, she was hurting, hungry, alone, and cold. She felt imprisoned. She may not of wanted to bring up much about that particular subject.
In this this book, Harriet’s friends a family play as a helping hand.Her loving family helped her and her children escape the south. throughout the whole book, Harriet wants to be free with her family. This book is mostly about Harriet,still it shows her family working together as a support group to get her free. Harriet does a great a great Job demonstrating her struggles, and showing how helping and prosperous hr family was at helping her and her children , so it does show her to connected to her family as a beautiful
