L. Zangori: I am talking to Thelen; tell me what is going on here? Thelen: These are clouds, this is a bee and it just left over here where the flowers are. This is a hill of soil and this is a little bit more grass and stuff. There is a little sunflower trying to grow and it is growing because there are clouds that are about to rain, but it is not quite raining yet. There is the sun. L. Zangori: You said that was a bee right? Thelen: Uh-huh. L. Zangori: Tell me what relationship to all this stuff the bee has. Thelen: The bee might pollinate the flowers. L. Zangori: Wow, okay. Have you learned about bees pollinating flowers? Thelen: Yeah. L. Zangori: Where did you learn that? Thelen: We had to learn about that in first and second grade. …show more content…
Zangori: That’s okay, what about sustainability? Thelen: I probably haven’t heard that. L. Zangori: What about green building? Have you ever heard that before? Thelen: I don’t think so, but I have an idea of what it might be. L. Zangori: Okay, tell me that. Thelen: How we have greenhouses and stuff, maybe it is something like that and they have really exotic things, like flowers and stuff. Like, really weird flowers and things. L. Zangori: That is a really good guess. I am not going to tell you, I am going to let you find out throughout the schoolyear. Those are words that you will probably learn about throughout the school year and all new fifth grade stuff. Have you heard of the term …show more content…
L. Zangori: Tell me what that one means. Thelen: Model and sculpture are kind of the same things. A sculpture is more into the art than it is into, like if we made little stick people, but first we put them on a piece of paper like this. Then we have them 3D printed and then we sat them out in the preschooler thing, it would be like a model because they might be having fun or something. They are like a leader model, and it could also be like bringing a sculpture. There could be one person that is a leader and really stands out and they are a model of being an all-star. Then there is also another one like a sculpture, but it’s not really a sculpture, because it couldn’t break very easily. L. Zangori: Okay, have you ever heard of scientists using models? How might a scientist use a model? Thelen: They may get something engraved in another thing, or a fossil engraved in something. L. Zangori: When you say engraved, you mean something on the bone that says the year. Is that what you mean by engraving? Thelen: By engraved I mean, if you look in water bowls you can see that there are little woodchips or something in her water bowl, but they are engraved in it so they don’t
