A Fantastic Gatsby
Baz Luhrmann's interpretation of the book “The Great Gatsby” was pretty spot-on. He brought a modern world taste and language to the movie by also keeping the movie in the same time frame as F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author of Great Gatsby. Some major pieces from the book where missing in the movie but the enthusiastic cast and script brought it all together.

The movie starts with the life of narrator, Nick Carraway {Tobey Maguire} in a mental institution. Aside from the book, Nick shares with a psychiatrist his encounters with Jay Gatsby{Leonardo DiCaprio}, Carraway's neighbor, a mysterious man that no one seems to know about and a millionaire who throws extravagant parties.
Jay Gatsby played nicely by Leonardo, is a lonely man trying to relive the past and look for genuinely caring friends, which he finds in Carraway. One of the major plots in the the movie and book is Gatsby's longing to rekindle his past relationship with Daisy Buchanan {Carey Mulligan}, a young, beautiful woman whom he had an old flame with. Gatsby uses Caraway and Daisy’s long time friend, Jordan Baker{Elizabeth Debicki} as a step stools to reunite with Mrs.Buchanan, causing her to choose between Gatsby and and her cheating, aggressive husband, Tom{Joel Edgerton}. …show more content…

Luhrmann builds the main character up, giving the viewers that suspense to see what happens next. As the movie goes on it flashes back to Nick and his observation by psychiatrist, giving us a glimpse of how Daisy and Gatsby’s side relationship grows.Jay’s feelings are made very clear on how he feels for daisy, in the book and movie.Daisy’s feelings are never fully developed in either
