In the summer of 2013 at a family barbeque I nonchalantly asked my aunt if there was any way I could volunteer at her job, an intercity Salvation Army Core, throughout the week. Asking this simple question that I initially didn’t put much consideration into, steered to far more than I could had ever anticipate. I projected what my experience would be like at the core playing out different scenarios in my head. I expected it to be similar to every other volunteer experience I had, simply assist the employees and perchance meet a few people along the way. I thought I would be working in a back pantry categorizing and bundling foods into care packages having minimal encounters.
Almost 17% of the adult population in the United States smoke cigarettes. Smokers are more likely to develop heart disease, stroke, lung cancer or blindness. Cigarettes smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States, so there are ranges of advertisements showing the harmful effects of cigarettes, and always telling people to do not smoke it, either by images, statistics or phrases. Among all advertisements that shocks, there is one in particular that it was not necessary a single word on it to do that. This ad is a colorful one that was created by the Roy Castle which is a lung cancer foundation, and was released on December 2007 on magazines and newspapers in the United Kingdom.
A non-smoking ad that I recently came across shows a very strong message. The ad shows a man’s hands loading a gun with cigarettes. On the side of the picture it gives a list of thing that happen from smoking cigarettes. The last thing is a bold statement saying, “Smoking Kills ….so why bother starting”.
The advertisement does an outstanding job of demonstrating the severe and extreme consequences of smoking. The advertisement accurately captures the different forms in which smoking alters your life and how it can lead to immense health risks. If a smoker were to view the CDC advertisement video they would reconsider smoking due to all the negative health risks. They may even try to find a way to escape smoking or seek help to quit. If nonsmokers view this video it will educate them further on the true effects smoking has on your life, and also it will make them think twice before them
#CATmageddon: A Rhetorical Analysis As Aristotle said: “Quitting smoking is rather a marathon than a sprint. It is not a one-time attempt, but a longer effort.” The Truth is a national campaign designed to inhibit the use of tobacco in American teens. The campaign is made by Truth Initiative formerly known as the American Legacy Foundation, a public health nonprofit group created in 1999 as a result of “the Master Settlement Agreement between U.S. tobacco companies, 46 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and five territories. Truth produces television and online content to promote anti-tobacco messages” (Wikipedia).
Regularly, I work as a volunteer at American Cancer Society. I aspire to assist the one who are on the edge of life. The fight against cancer is tough, and the patients need all the supports that they can get. The volunteer opportunity helps me realize that I’m not the center of the universe, but we are the universe. The best feeling when a person does such thing is the smile on cancer patients’ faces.
Whether it's helping with cleaning up after an event or donating to my community, I will always be willing to help out. Ways in which I depict service include volunteering at the Brian Adams Benefit to help raise money for a cancer patient whose family is struggling, helping clean up the Shawnee United Methodist Church property by picking up trash and helping with landscaping, ringing the bell to raise money for the Salvation Army, packing and delivering food at the West Ohio Food Bank for families in need, along with helping prepare food for needy families who come and stay at the church. I feel it is important to try to help as much of the community as possible, which is why I also volunteer at the Humane Society of Allen County. Showing a respect for not only my own community, but communities around my own, is something I pride myself on. Today’s society needs as much positivity as possible, and I try to provide that by giving up my own time for the well being of
I always serve my community in any way possible. I am always a good leader for groups, sports, etc., I always welcome new ideas even if
On a daily basis, I watch numerous Canadian citizens puffing smoke and hacking as they hold their cigarettes and cigars between their middle and index fingers. Printed on each pack of cigarettes sold are multiple warnings regarding the consequences and negative impacts of smoking habits. Regardless, users continue the usage of the drug that is legal in Canada. There are approximately 600 ingredients in cigarettes. When burned, they create more than 7,000 chemicals.
Stillborn. What does one feel when they find out they had a still born! Pain, sadness and anger are some of the feelings you feel when faced with sad reality. Today we will be analysing this women’s feelings towards a stillborn, how she describes a stillborn in which I agree completely as that is how a stillborn should be remembered. Beautiful words for a beautiful flower that unfortunately did not have the chance to blossom into a little diva.
