In the smoking advertisement by CDC, the message that they are trying to get across is the effects of smoking on people’s lives and health. As commonly known, tobacco is one of the most dangerous drugs in the world; thus, tobacco kills between six and eight million Americans annually. By having Terrie Hall tell her story and show all the ways that smoking has affected her life drastically. Most of the commercials take place in Terries hospital room where she does not have a wig on or her dentures. Terrie persuades the audience that smoking has truly ruined and changed her life forever. One treatment she explains was radiation care, which truly can be a bothersome process. This is shown through the method of ethos, because Terrie is shown as the result of what can happen when someone smokes throughout their life without concern for the effect it may have on their health. 
The advertisers do an excellent job of balancing their use of both ethos and pathos. Terrie then goes on to explain her long and horrifying smoking phase. Logos is shown because they us Terrie who was an ex-smoker whose life had become more difficult because of smoking,because of smoking she lost her teeth, hair and has a permanent blowhole. The advertisement does an outstanding job of demonstrating the severe and extreme consequences of smoking. The advertisement accurately captures the different forms in which smoking alters your life and how it can lead to immense health risks. If a smoker were to view the CDC advertisement video they would reconsider smoking due to all the negative health risks. They may even try to find a way to escape smoking or seek help to quit. If non­smokers view this video it will educate them further on the true effects smoking has on your life, and also it will make them think twice before them
