Introduction
Smoking is a major public health problem and a major cause of many diseases and premature deaths. All over the world, smoking tobacco is one of the main causes of preventable death, yet tobacco use is still extremely common. In the 20th Century, the tobacco epidemic killed 100 million people worldwide. During the 21st century, it could kill one billion. “By 2015, tobacco is projected to be responsible for 10% of all deaths worldwide and is projected to kill 50% more people than HIV/AIDS.” – states International Journal of Mental Health.
The nicotine alone inhaled in cigarette smoke has little effect in causing any damage, but addiction to nicotine causes continues to use, which is the direct or indirect cause. Nicotine addiction occurs when a smoker relies on the effects of smoking to improve their mood or to relieve withdrawal effects. Smoking is an extremely powerful form of drug delivery. With seconds inhaled is absorbed thought the lungs straight to brain. This fast inhales to the brain causes powerful ‘rush’ felt by the smoker, that positively represents the effects of nicotine risk.
