In the first stage initial confusion, both male and female individual’s experience confusion of having sexual feelings for male and females. Pryor, Weinberg, and Williams showed examples of both gender individual’s experience initial confusion, of not understanding who or “what I was,” and fear of losing “…their long-standing heterosexuality,” (Weinberg, 2014: pg. 275-276). I noticed that there were similar factors of confusion with both male and females, but there was also differences. For example, males’ confusion brought up a questions of if they were gay or not; which was hard for them to configure due to still having strong sexual tendencies for women. As for women they were in fear of who they were as a person and trying to pinpoint if they were homosexual or heterosexual. …show more content…

From my understanding, during this stage is when an individual finally puts a label that defines their inner feelings. In the article it talks about labels such as bisexual as something that formed a sort of comfort within individuals due to the fact that it described their tendencies. This was something that made individuals who were initially confused, and saying that they thought something was wrong with them, or felt as if they needed to choose between one or the other, or even fear, that there are people out there with the same sexual interests. Finding out that they were bisexual, made others feel more opened about the way they feel and comfortable to share that with others, which encouraged others to become more open to sexuality. I guess this helped society see it in a way that it is ok to be with both genders and not have to put a label of “I can only have sex with women, because I am a man or vice
