Digital Literacy: My Relationship With Photography And Videography

When I was younger, I used to believe that the people in movies were real. I thought that anything was possible because Luke Skywalker lived in a galaxy far, far away. I watched movies as if I was some third party, irrelevant character tagging along for a ride. I would flip through picture books and magazines and be amazed at the landscapes from National Geographic. I became infatuated with things I didn 't understand. It wasn 't until I got my first camera that I felt complete. My world became infinitely larger; I was able to capture pictures and videos of everything around me. My enthusiasm for the camera was unlike anything else that I had ever experienced in my life. I began to view my world through the viewfinder of a camera. Not only did I become hopelessly attached to my camera, but I was also unable to untwine it from my identity. It expanded my understanding of films and photos and lead me to realize how commonplace digital media is within the world. Since my understanding of digital literacy has been greatly influenced by the camera, I have been enabled to be adaptable and my interactions with other areas of my life have been enhanced. Traditional photography, in itself, cannot really be considered a digital thing. However, my relationship with photography and videography has lived almost completely in the digital world.
