The titans succeeded but Dionysus was then brought back to life by Rhea and Zeus gave him to the mountain nymphs to live there, be raised and protected. Dionysus had many siblings, most of whom were greek gods as well. Ares, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Aphrodite, Hebe, Hermes, Heracles, Helen of Troy, Hephaestus, Perseus, Minos, The Muses, and the Graces were all his brothers and sisters. Odysseus’ greed and desire to be treated as king causes Polyphemus to become enraged and hold his guests hostage. Polyphemus also began to devour his guests two-by-two and put Odysseus in danger, at his own fault. In seeing his greed, the reader can determine that Odysseus does not care for his men but only himself and his well being. In the execution of his plan to blind the cyclops, Odysseus launched the burning olive branch into Polyphemus’ eye as hard as he possibly could. After he lugged the branch in his eye, Odysseus proceeded to twist the branch and completely burn and destroy the cyclops’ eye ([374-380]).

This problematic display of curiosity from the epic hero leads him to taunt and insult the imposing one eyed giant saying “‘So, Cyclops, no weak coward it was whose crew you bent to devour there in your vaulted cave…you shameless cannibal…”(9, 531-34) “That made the rage of the monster boil over” (9,537) With Odysseus’s arrogance, would be his fall. Odysseus blinds the cyclops, and in a fit of pride and adrenaline, reveals who he is saying, “‘Cyclops– if any man on the face of the earth should ask you who blinded you, shamed you so–say Odysseus…”(9,558-60) With this outburst of information, the giant called out to poseidon fortelling he will “never reaches home. Or if he’s fated to see his people once again and reach his well-built house…let him come home late and a broken man-all shipmates lost”(9,589-94) Odysseus has now been cursed foreshadowing his future.
As they continue their course in hopes to find Ithaka, they also encounter many immortal beings that will forever impact this odyssey. Throughout The Odyssey, it is evident that the divine harness the ability to both help and hinder common civilians, most notably of these civilians are Odysseus and Telemachus. The divine intervention in Odysseus’ life displays that godly powers can impact the lives of humans in many different ways. For example, just after Calypso had sent Odysseus off to his journey home, vengeful Poseidon sees him approaching an island and unfortunately for Odysseus the powerful god decides to “give him a rough ride in, and will” (V, 300).
Odysseus was used to receiving hospitality back at his homeland, Ithaca, so when he arrived on the Cyclops’ island and did not receive the same treatment, he did not know how to react. But at the end of the day, Odysseus still manages to defeat Polyphemus, who is a god. But then Odysseus faced Poseidon’s wrath because he disrespected his family. Odysseus realized what his fate was going to be when he blinded the water god’s son: “A god may even send a great sea-monster, the kind that famous Amphitrite rears. I know Poseidon wants to do me harm'' (5.421-423).

Often times in Greek mythology, it is difficult to distinguish a God from a mortal. Therefore, the story of Euripides’ Bacchae is an example of how Dionysus tries to prove that he is a son of Zeus and a God. Throughout the story Dinoysus becomes feed up with other’s including King Pentheus’ disbelief causing him to create a deceitful plan to prove his true self. In Euripides’ Bacchae, I would have to sympathize with Pentheus. Pentheus ultimately suffered due to his own disbelief and unknowingness, which consequently lead to him getting deceived.
Dionysus accentuates in his first foundational dialogue that he is hurting Agave for not embracing Dionysus as a god, born of Zeus. In its place, Agave believes in the propaganda that he is a simple human, born of a male and female. In this view, Agave and her son Pentheus make the mistake of rejecting Dionysus. For this purpose, Dionysus has compelled Agave and all the womenfolk of Thebe making them escape to the mount where they walk about in a frenzy, trying the apparel of the proper Dionysian believers. But it was around this time that i went back and reread the beginning of the book up to this point so that i could understand what this ment and after reading the fi rst page i found myself drawn in by different words and ideas completely the same but different . i became irritated buy the gods in the story as in one moment it seems that they are insulted by this small man in comparison then they turn out to only be bored and heard his voice first and calling it entertainment to send his crew into death and to leave odysseus alive just to see him struggle.
