“Dirt Road Prayer” by Lauren Alaina The song I chose to analyze is, Dirt Road Prayer, by American idol runner-up, Lauren Alaina. The song describes a prayer she, the singer, is making for all of her loved ones. When she begins to speak about her mother, I immediately felt I could relate and began to think of my own mother. She then describes how blindly she has been living life, not taking any time out of her day to speak to her best friend, God. Apart from Lauren’s beautiful voice, and amazing choice of instruments, the feeling the song gives you is beyond beautiful. She starts off the song by first speaking about her mother. She says, “Let the light shine on my mama, she’s been worried about me, and I can tell she’s tired.” I immediately remember my own mother, and how her days are constantly filled with her worrying about me and constantly making sure I am okay.
