Essay Question – Concept #1 When I first started this semester, I knew that I was ignorant on a lot of things. I consider myself knowledgeable on a lot of things that was going on my surroundings, but boy was I dead wrong. It only took me one professor and 1 semester to know that there are a lot of things I need to learn to grow as a person. Just on the first day, I learned a lot of information. I learned about the different kinds of disabilities and how the public people viewed individuals who have disabilities. Unit 1: This unit really opened my eyes because I kept looking at my surroundings in a able person eyes. I never doubted anything and I thought everything was normal. Media plays a big part in our lives and we know it does, but we don’t do anything about it. Our job this unit was to find a picture we know is a negative thing to have and then try to reimage it to have a positive meaning. For my part I did a PowerPoint, website, a word document, and also created a poster. I believed that the commercials I found were negative. Especially the one I found about some male individuals playing basketball in wheelchairs. At first, I thought it was amazing that they were playing a sport, but the ending was horrible when they got up from the chairs and went to a bar for a beer. I created a positive way to make this negative to a positive, and that was to have only disable people playing and enjoying a great game. Both of these things made an impact. The movie “The Sea Inside” made me question, “What is right in this world.” The reason I said this was after watching a film of someone asking to die, due to the fact he didn’t want others to see him in this state. He wanted to give up hope and his answer was to die. He wanted someone to help him, and at the end he got his wish. I would have hate being in his shoes. I would have wanted to end it any way I can. I would have even fantasize about doing anything rather being in bed. The second item was our awareness week that our professor planned perfectly. The speakers were informative about the items. I learned about organizations that help individuals with jobs. I learned about bathrooms for everyone, and they all will have equal rights to us
