When the outside religions hadn't come to Africa, the women were in control of land and they were the ones who controlled their families. Once Islam and Christianity became involved, women lost their entitlement of land and were looked at as subordinates to their male counterparts. The mixing of cultures demonstrates the difference that religion has on a society. 3. One of the greatest similarities was the structures that were created.
For instance, the creator and the process in which he created was the most glaring dissimilarity. The Bible’s God and Wee-sa-kay-jac created man from the clay and dirt, but the status of the two is completely different. The Cree creator was not the high God, like Judiasm’s. He was the son of the high god Mother Earth, who actually created everything by birthing it.
One of the similarities, was one of the animals that they both hunted, PORCUPINE! For example, the Iroquois use the porcupine quills and the Inuits just eat them. Another similarity, is the myth of the blood sucking monster, the MOSQUITOES! For example, they both think that mosquitoes are blood sucking monsters that kill you. But really, they are just blood suckers.
The Europeans also looked down on the Africans and Native Americans religious beliefs. The Africans and Native Americans both believed that objects and nature held sacred
The religion practice for both groups are majorly different; the Natives have focused more on the belief of spirits
Europe, Africa, and the Americas each had intelligent societies developed in them. However, geography of the territories they lived in contributed to the development of these civilizations. Civilizations that lived close to each other often influenced or inspired each other. Moreover, civilizations often took from their predecessors. A key example of this is when the Aztecs destroyed and took over the Toltec Native American’s land.
Religion is a very important factor in the African Diaspora and African American history. The enslavement of many Africans in the New World and the interaction with Native Americans and Europeans brought new religions, religious views, cultures, rituals, and traditions to Africa and the Americas. Even though there was many small religions, Islam was one of the most widespread religions in Africa, then Christianity started dispersing once Europeans came and set foot into Africa. This religion was spread throughout various parts of Africa and enslaved Africans were being forced to practice this religion in the Americas as well as in parts of Africa. The Christian holy book called the Bible has affected the lives of Africans and their descendants
Although Africa and the Americas arent that far away from each other, they have many differences. Throughout the time, civilizations started to settle in areas all over the world. During these era’s, they are all unique and some were wealthy. They all have different ways they eat, build houses, and ran their society. What did all of these civilizations have in common?
Native Americans and Africans were spiritual people. Native Americans and African believed in different gods compared to the monotheistic Europeans. Both Native Americans and Africans believed that spirits were present in everything, including natural objects. This led them to treat nature with a great deal of respect. Europeans, on the other hand, believed that nature was to be exploited.
People generally agree that the religious life of African American forms the foundation of their community life. However, in the 1770s, less than 1% of African Americans were connected to a church. Was the church/ Christianity force upon African Americans while enslaved? Scholars estimated that about 30% of African Americans that came to the United States as slaves were Muslims while 70% practiced indigenous forms of worship. Today, in the 21st century, more than 87% of African Americans identify as Christian and claims that religion plays a major role in their everyday life.
Some differences between West Africa and America. Although they bear some superficial similarities, the differences between life in Africa and that of America is clear. Firstly, I would like to start with the weather. There are only two seasons in Africa; the rainy season and the dry season. The rainy season is generally the time of the year when the rain brings new life in the wilderness areas of Africa and bringing forth new growth.
They have very many different beliefs. They are both very unique though. These are very interesting religions to write about and I enjoyed
The Egyptians and Mayans had many similarities and differences. Each was affected differently by their surroundings, yet their religious beliefs were very similar. This affected how each empire would grow, eventually collapse, and influence the future. Both architecture styles were used by settlers who took over the massive empires and farming techniques are still used till this day. However, the spiritual beliefs of both cultures were not passed down.
The first similarity is their hunting and food. Well they both have the same food they eat like their fish, seals, and whales. Some weapons they used were knives and spears. The second similarity is the Inuits and Mi’kmaq people is the language they speak.
There is also a very strong belief in ancestors and the dead in all African cultures. Many rituals are performed to make offers to the gods if something that was done could have angered them. This idea of natural justice runs back many thousands of years in African cultures. One of the biggest changes from the pre modern to early modern thinkers was the growth in science and the idea of individualism. This is already a step away from metaphysics as science only believes what can be proven or observed and individualism takes away the idea of the over all idea of natural justice for everyone and focuses more directly on each individual person.
