Feminism is the belief and advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, intellectual, and religious equality to men. The people that support this idea are called feminists. Feminists are not limited to one gender. These supporters can be male or female human beings, although the idea is primarily associated mainly with women. The purpose of feminism revolves around the value of equality. Many changes in society have heavily influenced and confused religions. Inevitably, “all humans will not be equally respected, given unequal status. Thus, the church becomes a powerful contributor to inherently unjust social, legal, and economic systems. Feminism, negated as a philosophical and religious world view by Western religions, challenges the status quo insofar as it calls for endorsement of full human equality.”

Feminists simply view religion as another organization in society that supports and maintains male dominance over women. In the mind of a feminist, many believers have convinced women that it is God’s will for them to be submissive to men. Unfortunate as this may be, as stated before, it is not religion itself, it is the men that distort it. Jean Holm, a feminist activist, found that women weren’t allowed to enter places of worship during pregnancy or menstruation. The exclusion of women from the church, priesthood, society and people of most religions is evidence of religious banishment. These two sociologist confirm the evidence of women’s inferior status in the patriarchal rule of religion. Women are taught to accept this lifestyle.
