Nevertheless, the first time Moore faced a situation where some of his men were so drunk they failed to report for duty he navigated the ethical dilemma of potential harm while determining the best course of disciplinary action. Instead of having the men arrested he made them run around the base with him and into mountain trails as punishment. He did this because he considered the 2nd and 3rd order effects for calling the military police such as jail, which would remove the men when his unit was already undermanned as well as tying up Army’s law enforcement
Collier was convicted of failure to repair (or failure to go to appointed place of duty), disobeying the lawful order of a warrant officer, as well as dereliction of duty. These three convictions were violations of Article 86 (he was absent without leave), Article 91 (willfully disobeyed the lawful order of a warrant officer), and Article 92 (failure to obey order or regulation) of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Sgt. Collier was given a bad-conduct discharge and reduction to the rank of E-1. c.
Which may not sound like much, but they went from being responsible for a group of officers during the hours of a patrol shift, to becoming responsible for an entire section of the city 24/7. This case study indicates that the lieutenants struggled with this change in roles, but even more, the sergeants who inherited the soldiers ' former watch commander duties struggled. The case suggests that they were not well informed about the changes or their rationale and had not been given much training or support for their new responsibilities. It can become assumed that the sergeants felt they already had full-time jobs and then were suddenly saddled with additional work without much explanation or preparation. The Chief indicated that, in retrospect, he should have had the sergeants more involved in the change process.
Nevertheless he was pressed into acceptance. He soon found himself in trouble. The colonel found himself in trouble. The colonel gave an improper command, and the strict discipline of West Point forbade any improvisation, so Jackson’s company marched off the parade ground and straight through the town. The lieutenant’s explanation was illuminating and characteristic: He was obeying orders(Vandiver).
These individuals had to follow their orders and ignore their own moral laws to prevent disobeying the law. This shows how people need to focus more on following their
The Marine Corps values rank structure and respect to that rank structure even if you are completely in the right to correct or call out a higher rank on something they did wrong it is demanded of you to use the upmost possible tact and respect. From Private to Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps this applies. One saying I learned that comes to mind, in regard to respecting rank structure, “if you respect the man you respect the rank.” I do my best to live by this in the Marine Corps. I believe that myself and for the most part everyone at every rank can have trouble at times remembering our place in the Corps.
Too many leaders today have forgotten where they came from, we were all privates at one time in our careers. The military is not a democracy, but has a regimented structure. We all must follow orders, but when those orders are considered morally questionable and unethical, this becomes problematic throughout the entire

His pride had destroyed his life ,he had no more comfort. He lost his loved ones just like the prophet said
Refusing or not or not doing an order precisely as given indicates an unwillingness to compromise for the general good of the unit shows self centered decisions and selfishly motivated that a successful military member should not have. Every order in any circumstance is important, so long as it’s not unlawful, and has
The Uniform Code of Military Justice does not compare to civilian law. Because it deals with the safety of the nation, it has to be even more strict and detailed. Conscious efforts to leave base camp and endangering fellow soldiers should not be taken lightly. Bowe Bergdahl did not hesitate to tell Mark Boal, the interviewer, that he had mindfully planned the best time to walk away from site. According to Bowe, the sole purpose of this decision was to bring attention to the errors happening within his base.
He sacrificed for the greater good, and at that moment, he did the right
In the movie Crimson Tide, we look to the question ethical decisions, and what someone would do when thrown into a situation that made them question themselves, and who they serve for. In this example, when serving in the United States Military, once a solider is given orders, that solider must follow the orders out and not to question them. The trust between the solider and the higher command giving orders is almost based on blind faith. The solider relies on the higher commands decision of protecting democracy, even if someone, or a lot of people are killed. Is it an ethical decision to follow a commander’s order even if it means killing mass numbers of innocent civilians?
The Effective Military Leader Warrant Officer Romero, Philip T. SPC: Captain Dearth, 1st Platoon The book “Black Hearts One Platoons Descent into Madness in Iraq’s Triangle of Death” by Jim Frederick is a true story about multiple leadership failures and six United States Soldiers from 1st Platoon, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division who were convicted for their involvement in horrible crimes while deployed to Iraq. The horrific acts including rape as well as murder committed by the soldiers of 1st platoon were a direct result of poor military leadership. Bad leadership will corrupt any military unit.
Not committing to the task could potentially suggest that they were incompetent or lack the capacity as a military personnel so facing ‘dangers’ was a much preferred option. Additionally, discipline in the military can be seen when an officer makes his salutes appropriately, their conduct, to the state of their uniform and even how they present themselves in public. While discipline in military is rewarded as it is a sign of respect and duty, misconduct on the other hand is punishable. When discipline is lacking in an army personnel, it not only affects their own performance but also the team as a whole. It is therefore important to instil discipline early and effectively.
