Diversity in the Film Industry

Social progress is defined as: “The capacity of a society to meet the basic human needs of its citizens, to establish the building blocks that allow citizens and communities to enhance and sustain the quality of their lives, to create the conditions for all individuals to reach their full potential.” In today’s Hollywood, several changes have taken the stage, the most notable is diversity in films, now more than ever women are given more acting roles, and people of color and Asians are seen taking the front stage in numerous movies, therefore one must inquire. How much of an increase has there been in comparison to previous years?

Asians, however, have it the hardest because given the circumstances, are yet to see the spotlight actors are often emasculated, and Asian women are often oversexualized, in the instance where Asians are given the opportunity by Hollywood to portray themselves as collective, they do so at the cost stereotyping themselves, although not of their volition, positively speaking it is one’s prerogative to comprehend that diversity in the American filmography is a phenomenon that is indeed palpable, nonetheless much to Hollywood’s dismay it must accept and provide the means necessary in order for this cause to reach its full potential, idyllically the aim is to witness a film industry that reflects its society justly and thoroughly or else cease to receive the positive reception from the American populous, to do otherwise is
