Divided In Voltaire's 'Candide'

Pangloss once said, "There is no effect without a cause, and that this is the best of all possible worlds". Candide was tempted by the beauty of lady Cunegonde in the book Candide by Voltaire. It caused him to loose his house and access to meals. Nothing but misfortune for poor Candide. Pushed around, stolen from and almost killed, all for the love of his life lady Cunegonde. Soon Candide will no longer feel the strong feeling for lady Cunegonde and will not be fooled by Pangloss's philosophy of life. Candide's love for lady Cunegonde caused him many problems. Candide had to travel and go through a lot to find Cunegonde. Not only that, Candide killed two men at once without thinking or hesitating. After all Candide has gone through, he finally meets once again with his lovely Cunegonde who no longer is beautiful. Candide lost his home and had no where to go or stay. According to Voltaire, " Baron … Drove Candide from the house with powerful kicks on the backside"(page 21). Candide laments that his actions have caused Baron to kick him out and separate him from Cunegonde and his commodities. Candide was forced to leave lady Cunegonde due to the strong feelings he had towards her. Furthermore, Candide was not only kicked out, he had no where to sleep as well as no access to food.
