partition of Labor or Division of Labor?
This paper will explore the concept of division of labor. It will expound on the different aspect of division of labor in the industry and will provide examples of division of labor in the work force. Furthermore, this paper will discuss the importance of division of labor in a capitalist economy, how it leads to efficient production, and a personal experience of how division of labor has played a part in my experiences. With the example provided, you will come to understand how division of labor works on both the production platform as well as the service platform.

The first large scale assembly line was started by Henry Ford in his manufacturing companies and is a great example to use to visualize how efficiency comes into play. Prior to the assembly line, Ford vehicles were made solely by a single individual who crafted the work of art with massive amounts of skill and knowledge of all aspects of the vehicle in mind (Price, 2004). This took a lot of time to complete and with a shortage of people who were skilled or knowledgeable enough to do this, it was not feasible to take them to a larger stage. With the assembly line, Ford was able to individualize the labor force to concentrate on a single portion of the manufacturing process. Each individual was trained on a specific phase or part of the production which created a much larger work force able to create the vehicles in much less time. With the idea that most people can be taught and specialized in one or two areas, the ability to hone in and perfect their own craft led to a faster and more modernized production of the vehicle. In turn, the output was much more affordable and generated a much higher supply that was attainable to the population. Although it has been around since man can remember, it made its headline debut on the big stage when Henry Ford used the concept to create the assembly line on a large scale. Being able to see the changes made on that scale has given proof of the efficiency of production and has shown to be a multiplier in the work force. Allowing this specialization of labor and division of work not only creates a more streamline effort but also allows the workers to become more precise and skilled on that task. A capitalist economy not only reinforces the concept of division of labor but also promotes an industry of specialized and skilled workers that ultimately increases the work force.
