What is the process of evolution, and what does genetics have to with evolution?
Is it possible to have different variations of a species? This essay will talk about how overtime genetics play apart in evolution, why some traits become more common and some don’t and where does natural selection come into play in the process of the evolutionary theory.
What is evolution? Evolution the model to the history of life on earth, is based on the idea that all species are related and change over time. Genetic variation, a different physical trait in a population. These variations give the individual characteristic advantage that help them survive. For evolution to take place it has to come from the genetic level.
This means that

In 1835 off the coast of Ecuador the “beagle” approached a cluster of 2 dozen Galapagos islands. Tiny lumps of rock from a recent volcanic origin made up most of the islands. On these rather barren islands lived mostly reptiles and birds, each island had its own varieties of animals. The tortoises on each island had its own distinct variety. “it was the birds that gave Darwin his key piece of evidence for his eventual theory of evolution”. (text book Pg 20) Darwin discovered that each island had its own species of finches. He graded the finches on beak shape and size, some had large strong beaks, long slender beaks Darwin collected around thirteen different small brown and black finches. The large beaks were for eating large seeds and the small beaks were eating small soft seeds He came to the idea that these species were modified from the original species. He called the differences in the species “natural selection” differential reproductive success over multiple generations. Overall natural selection is a mutation that helps the offspring of species the better survive …show more content…
Getting hybrid plants he focused on the features of the pea and the plant itself, for instance color of pea and shape or the height of the plant. With the experiments Mendel came to the conclusion the traits are inherited.
“Genetic Variation” is based off three primary sources mutation, Gene flow, and sex.
When a mutation takes place it is because of a change in the DNA, which affects the way an organism behaves and looks. When mutations happen they are random, mutations can be beneficial or harmful sometimes them have no effect on the organism. Not all mutations are useful to the organism based on that all mutations are random. Since DNA is in the cells in your body mutations can take place in a lot of places in the body, Somatic mutation occur non reproductive cells and wont be passed on. Gene flow also called “migration”, genetic material that one organism carries from one population to another. If a version of a gene flows through a population where it is not common it is a very important factor to gene flow. Sex is important to genetic variation it can introduce gene combos that the population haven’t seen. So if you are tall and have lighter hair, and your dad is tall and
