Did you know that 56.63% of couples are divorced in 2014? The book The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins is about a lady who just got divorced. When Rachael has her daily routine on the morning train, she always looks for a house with the stateliest couple. As Rachael starts to interact with this couple she realizes that their life is not what she expected. In this journal, I will be talking about the three main conflicts. The first major conflict was Rachael and her ex husband Tom. Rachael and Tom were married at a very young age. When they got married, they moved into a house right next to the railroad tracks. She “lived at number twenty-three Blenheim road” (Hawkins 6) As Rachael and Tom went along with their days, they realized how much they weren’t alike. That’s when Rachael’s life turned around. They ended up selling the house and Rachael moved into a college friend’s house. She realized that her life was just became musty. It was hard to. As Rachael went along with her single and boring life. She began to realize her life was over; she became to use alcohol as a stress reliever. She seeks solace in the strong alcohol. Rachael would use different excuses like “it’s Friday, so I don’t have to feel guilty about drinking on the train. TGIF”(Hawkins 3). When she was lost she would drink until she couldn’t feel her pain anymore. Rachael’s roommate, Cathy, was never excited when she drank because that means Rachael would rant about how her life was
