In the article “Does Suspending Students Work?” written by Christopher J. Ferguson he gives his opinion on why suspending students doesn’t work. To do so he uses examples of s schools on why it doesn’t work. I never really sat down and thought if out of school suspensions where a good consequence or not but sitting down and reading this article I realize Ferguson has good points. As I read this article I came to a conclusion that I too agree that out of school suspensions are ineffective and there are more ways that can come out with a better result. The main point that I really agreed with was when he said “Giving students what amounts to a free day or two off doesn’t actually feel like punishment for most kids, especially those who may already be hostile towards school to begin with.” The way I see it is if they are doing things that are getting them in trouble enough to get suspension then they probably already don’t care about school. The fact that they don’t already like school for them it wouldn’t hurt not going a day or two. “ If the students then misses school work, his or her gardes will decline, further increasing the students detachment from the academic …show more content…

I believe that this is the best way to use suspension and an alternative to out of school suspension. In continuation in-school suspension or Saturday’s would make them do work and still stay caught up with any work they would have missed with out of school
