In the modern age, many Americans still believe that the American Dream still exists today. In the 1930s the dream was alive and everyone was prosperous and living luxuriously, but now the unemployment rate is at an all-time high causing the dream to fade. Over the past century, the American Dream is becoming more of a dream than reality. Since the dream is becoming more difficult to achieve people are now judging one another more for their possessions. The American Dream is almost non-existent nowadays because of the shape of America's economy today. If you know, America has over nineteen trillion dollars in debt and it keeps going higher. After the Stock Market Crash of 1929, the economy held together and even prospered from that time. In the novel The Great Gatsby, Gatsby was living the American Dream till his death. He would throw extravagant parties like it was nothing. People that attended these parties would view him for his house and his appearance, also people would judge him as a hustler because he would use dirty tricks to get himself money. Mostly people judge others because of greed. In The Great Gatsby, Gatsby has greed towards Tom because he has something that Gatsby doesn’t, which is Daisy. Gatsby achieved the American Dream by any means necessary and since he worked with Meyer Wolfsheim, thus people would view him as a con artist. They would judge Gatsby because they wanted to expose some filth about him because he was a figure of the rich
