The Vietnam War was between North and South Vietnam, and their allies like America. The Americans goal was to prevent communist insurgency. Eventually “…Henry Kissinger and Nixon made a policy called ‘Vietnamization’” (History.com). The policy entails “American troops [to] be withdrawn while South Vietnamese soldiers [would be] backed by continued American bombing…” (Foner 1016).
Bibi Barrera APUSH 3/13/18 P1 Short Answer Rewrite The Vietnam War was a war that happened to last 20 years. The United States did not agree with the spread of communism so they sided with South Vietnam. The U.S happened to get involved due to wanting to stop the war because they didn’t want it to spread. It impacted the world due to it being the first war to become televised and people were upset because people were dying.
The Vietnam War, which lasted from 1955 to 1975, was one of the most divisive and controversial conflicts in American history. It was a military conflict between the Communist North Vietnam, and South Vietnam, with the United States and other Western powers supporting the Southern Vietnamese. The war was fought in the context of the Cold War because the United States feared that Communism would spread throughout Southeast Asia if North Vietnam managed to take control of the entire country. The war had such a profound impact on American society, and still remains a subject of intense debate and analysis today. After World War I, Vietnamese leader, Ho Chi Minh, expressed many grievances against the French colonialists.
The Domino Theory was a policy that suggested to the Vietnam army that if one nation fell to communist or was already communist that the neighboring countries would also fall to communism. The draft was a major part of the Vietnam war because it was one of the most bloodiest wars of all time. The draft was when men from all around the United States were drafted to the Vietnam war when there weren't many volunteers that wanted to join. This was a major part of the Vietnam war because many men that didn't want to join the war were forced to join and fight. As the Vietnam war was on of the most bloodiest war and it was being shown on T.V. to where individuals at their homes can see what was happening at Vietnam caused many to not want to join
November 1, 1955 marked the beginning of the conflict in Vietnam. The Vietnam War was a fight against the Domino Theory, or the idea of the spreading of communism. Northern Vietnam was a communist territory, and the United States government feared that Southern Vietnam would soon become a communist state as well. In order to prevent this from happening, the US government drafted many young Americans to fight against Northern Vietnam. At first, many Americans supported the country’s involvement, though as time went on, many people became weary of the country’s involvement in the battle.
The Vietnam War The war in Vietnam was an enduring struggle for independence that lasted twenty years. After being colonized and controlled by Japan, France, and China, Vietnam was ready to revolutionize and gain their independence. Once Ho Chi Minh, the new leader of Vietnam, adopted communism the United States became more worried about Soviet aggression. A communist Vietnam meant that neighboring countries could fall to communism through a theory called the domino theory. As the war began the United States soon found themselves in a state of social, economic, and political turmoil.
The Vietnam war was preceded by a very turbulent time in our history with problems here in the states such as racism, women’s rights, and a president being shot. But in Vietnam they were going through a civil war, which they had done before, but not to this extent, this time they got the U.S.S.R. involved. It was communist Russia and North Vietnam against South Vietnam. The U.S. started to get
The main reason America went to war with Vietnam was to keep South Vietnam from falling to communism. At the time, the Domino Theory was a huge worry because America thought that if South Vietnam turned to communism then other countries would shortly follow (U.S. News). This affected the young draftees because some didn’t want to go and risk their lives just to try and fight, what they thought should be, South Vietnam’s own war. Americans didn’t think that the war was necessary because they believed that South Vietnam could fight its own battle while other Americans felt that they should help Vietnam so they could have a lesser chance of becoming communist. All of these opinions confused young draftees because they didn’t know if they should believe that South Vietnam should fight its own battle or if America should step in and
The French Colonialism was a big part of the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War was actually started after a long conflict that the French had. Vietnam was the longest and the most unpopular War in America History. I feel like the conflict the French had, had a lot to do with the Vietnam war and America felt like they had to join in to stop Communism from spreading to the whole world. The Presidents and new organizations like SEATO had a lot to do with the War to become more intense than what it started out to be.
The vietnam war and its relations to the domino theory: was connected to all presidents who were in offices during the early 50’s to the mid 70’s due to its high tensions that arose before the war all the way to the end of the soviet union’s reign in the mid 90’s. The theory states that if one country in the asian countries falls into communism, then other countries will as well. Vietnam as well as other countries had been fighting wars against communism which made it split between north and south. The vietnam war was caused by communism and the U.S. intervened to stop communism. Later it would be worried by Dwight D. Eisenhower as well that the spread of communism be inevitable.
The Vietnam War was one of great reflection for the people of America. Why were we putting countless lives on the front lines of a country a million miles away? The Vietnam War began under a different name, The First Indochina War, and it occurred almost twenty years before the United States of America put troops in Vietnam. The French were fighting to keep control of their Southeast Asian colony. This war lasted eight years, starting in 1946 and ending in 1954.
The beginning of my essay: America in the 1960s America in the 1960s, the Nineteen Sixties was a decade that changed America forever. The people reformed the decade not so much by the government. The Sixties contained more spiritualism, people were against the Vietnam war, protests, civil rights, and new beliefs on every aspect of living. The topics that arose during the sixties were not small when they were accomplished or challenged the outcome changed American society forever. Most legislative bills passed in the sixties still remain today.
One of the root causes of the Vietnam War was the struggles between the French colonial forces and native Vietnamese citizens supported by Chinese communists. The United States forces entered the conflict in support of the French in order to fight communism. The Americans fought the war alone, when the French left. The Americans had been working with the anti-communist side in Vietnam since 1950. The Vietnamese Diem administration was corrupt and proved ineffective in fighting the powerful and communist-supported Ho Chi Minh.
The Vietnam War was a war the United States should have never been involved in. The “Domino Theory” was a direct cause of the war. The war resulted in much death; innocent civilians and young Americans were killed. The Vietnam war also resulted in rioting, distrust for the United States government, and the loss of many lives. 58,000 Americans were killed and 300,000 were wounded.
The United States believed that it was their responsibility to contain Communism. They wanted to stop the spread of communism across the world. They saw that Vietnam as the start of the spread of Communism so it contributed as one of the reasons of going to war. The Domino theory was a theory that if one country in a region falls to Communism that the surrounding countries would fall to communism as well. The U.S. also saw the Domino Theory in Vietnam.
