Discrimination against any race, no matter what the reason is always very wrong. In the book “Farewell to Manzanar” the Japanese-Americans were blamed for the attack on Pearl Harbor even though they had no part in it. The Jews in the the novel “Night” were targeted for absolutely no reason besides the fact that Hitler did not like them. Both races were sent away to be isolated from the world to different types of camps. While the concept of the camps were the same, they had very opposite living conditions.
In the Crucible, and during the Salem Witch Trials, many innocent people were accused of witchcraft based on the way they looked or acted. Similar to this, other points in history have been very harsh to certain groups of people based on their appearance or beliefs. During the Holocaust, the Germans being led by Hitler, tried to eliminate the Jews completely, in order to be a superior race. During this time lots of Jews were killed only because they identified as being a Jew.

Morrison’s Recitatif is a thought-provoking story about an inter-racial childhood as two girls partially grow up in an institution without their mothers. Roberta’s mother was sick and Twyla’s mother wanted to dance all night, or so the girls believed. The two girls were able to bond through their life experiences and different predicaments and become friends. As they run into each other various times in adulthood, the story creates an interesting narrative of the views of society as a whole and individual racism. The way this story is set up causes the reader to not have a clear understanding as to how to interpret and perceive the overall narrative.
J.M. is an 82-year-old women, and lives alone. She lives in an urban area of Watertown, NY. Within, Watertown she lives in a senior living building for ages 55 and older. This building is made up of 42 apartments. The majority of the apartments are single units but there is one, two bedroom apartment.
“The very ink with which history is written is merely fluid prejudice.”-Mark Twain. Two events that are written all over with prejudice are the Holocaust and the lynchings of African-Americans during the Reconstruction Era. The two events are perfect examples of racism and scapegoating in the sense that the Nazis and the KKK had to kill and get rid of blacks and jews because they were the cause of a major world problem when really the only difference was the pigment of their skin or what God they believed in. The two events are very different in their execution and the result but the intention was the same and that is why the two events are equally evil on a moral standpoint.

Presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson has told CNN that he feels that Muslims must not be elected as president. “I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation”(Carson, 2015) Looking at this statement from Dr. Carson as a stereotyping comment one can say that he is a borderline racist only because he says that only a Christian should be elected. Since he has mentioned to CNN, USA Today, and other media outlets he has made it clear that his beliefs are firmed on not having a Muslim as an elected president. Recanting his statement on Muslims being elected Carson has noted since the presidential polls have dropped in numbers, he has said that the media took his words and mixed them up (Carson, 2015).
I agree with Trudeau’s ideals of how national relationships should operate. In my view, it’s because some don’t prioritize interaction and being open with each other that our current society is plagued by a discriminative feature: stereotypes. The problem affects both our government and social society. Because of stereotypes, there are certain aspects expected from a person because of their race, beliefs, and/or culture. Stereotypes are widely known and are hard to get rid of since, some choose to be ignorant in learning the various types of people we will come to communicate with; their lack of knowledge would force them to use the information available to them, which are stereotypes.
Jem, Scout, and Dill always stereotype Boo Radley without knowing him or knowing his real story. To explain this example I say people always stereotype people without knowing the person. When a person is walking down the street another person will be stereotyping him or her for religion or race. Another example is when they put Tom Robinson in jail for rapping a white women, but he was innocent. The court won't hear his side they think he is lying because Tom is black.

Thesis: The problem in society today is in the industry of social media. In efforts to attract the eye of the general population, advertising companies create billboards, commercials, flyers and other ads with stereotypes that are accepted in today’s society. Being a fast food worker for the past year and a half, I have been exposed to numerous different types of people, and most of them are not the same race as me. When I first started to get to know them, even though at times there was difficulty communicating, we were able to make it work and build stronger relationships. One of my favorite managers was Rose, a Hispanic woman who had been so kind to me. She was an example of someone who was able to teach me things about herself I could have stereotyped and not taken the time to learn anything about her as an individual. Growing up in Joliet, Illinois has always given me the opportunity to experience race relations on a regular basis, just due to the diversity of the city that I live in.
1. Single stories are stereotypes that are based off of one perspective of a group of people. Single stories are built upon each other and define people;however, single stories aren't always true. There is a saying "don't judge a book by its cover". However, people of all generations are very judgmental.
