Currently, I work for South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department (SCVRD). I am an Assessment and Career Exploration Specialist and also a Job Preparedness Instructor. While I enjoy my current role, I feel the need to carry out a more significant function in the rehabilitation process. Before one must speak of how counselors impact students and their future decisions, one must have a grander scheme of something none as the counselor ratio. However due to increased population nationally schools have become overcrowded and these ratios can not be reached. Although the national average has decreased, it’s still nearly twice ASCA’s recommended ratio of 250 students per school counselor.
Career Autobiography There are many things that I feel have led me to year number two of graduate school pursuing a career as a school counselor. For I while I tried to convince myself that a career in school counseling was not for me and ultimately everything led me here. My mother has been a school counselor for the last 25 years and I grew up watching her do something she loved. I went to school everyday and watched my mother make a positive impact on many of my classmates and this left a very lasting impression on me.
