It is in the paragraph in which Doodle’s brother teaches Doodle to stand alone is essential, because it allows the reader to feel emotional connection towards Doodle and the author develops this situation as a major climatic book in the short story The Scarlet Ibis. Doodle is a young boy who is mentally disabled, resulting in him not able to stand on his own feet. His brother is embarrassed and ashamed of Doodle’s inability to stand, let alone walk, or play like the other boys. Therefore, he set out to teach him to walk, which was a difficult process because Doodle didn’t want to try. It was only until Doodle’s brother painted a picture of Doodle and him in the future where they are old men and Doodle isn’t able to walk and “this never failed to make him try again.” This picture is the turning point and the prime reason that Doodle tried to stand and was able to overcome his fear. …show more content…
