Death is the end of an organism. A person doesn't know when there time is, but they do know that they need to be ready when the time comes. If a person kills someone then that is their responsibility, also. n James Hurst’s short story “The Scarlet Ibis,” the older brother was responsible for Doodle’s death because the brother overwhelmed Doodle,gave no mercy,and left Doodle behind. First, the brother made Doodle overwhelmed.

Being overwhelmed means to load, heap, treat, or address with an overpowering or excessive amount of anything, (Dictionary.com). The brother tried to make Doodle walk, run, jump, race, and climb vines with the brother. The brother taught Doodle how to walk because the brother was embarrassed by Doodle because he was five years old and didn't know how to walk. Then, after Doodle successfully learned to walk, the brother made Doodle practice running,swimming,fighting, and climbing vines. Next,a reason why the brother was responsible for Doodle’s death was the brother gave no mercy. …show more content…

When the boys were returning to the house to run away from the storm, Doodle was looking for a sign of mercy from the brother. Doodle was scared of the lightning from the storm,so the brother started to run. Then, the lightning shattered a gum tree ahead of them and the brother ran faster not waiting for Doodle to catch up.
