Doug Evans deserves to be sanctioned With the tardy furniture murders regarding Curtis Flowers, Doug Evans' actions of basing his investigations on unsolid evidence and witness tampering towards Curtis Flowers deserves to be sanctioned—the sanction disbarment from the court. Curtis Flowers was known by friends and family as “very laid back, always smiling, laughing, talking and very cordial.” Even with this description and little to no evidence that he was at the scene of the crime during the time it took place, Doug Evans was still convinced that he killed four people in the Tardy furniture store one morning. Curtis Flowers was working with fireworks as it was around the fourth of July. This could explain the “gunpowder residue” and the shoebox belonging to his girlfriend's son. The two “witnesses” were his cellmates with questionable statements, which they later recounted. This was the evidence that Doug Evans was basing his presumption that Curtis Flowers was the killer. Though the evidence proved inadequate, Doug Evans continually bribed and harassed people to change their statements to be incriminating toward Curtis and would not allow him contact with the outside world. When reporters and family members requested contact with Curtis, they were denied that right. Doug Evans was in multiple instances witness to tampering. He was known to have shown Patrick Veal (one of the “witnesses”) pictures and told him a story that he was supposed to tell the jury to make Curtis Flowers seem like he had committed the crime. Veal was offered a 30k reward for splitting with the other “jailhouse snitch” Ricky Banks, who would later imply that Doug Evans was offering an incentive for them to lie to the court for money.
