The features of Down syndrome are caused by that extra copy of chromosome #21 being in every cell in the body. When this cell with three 21 chromosomes continues to multiply, and the pregnancy is carried to term, a baby with Down syndrome will be born. There is nothing you could have done to cause your child to be born with Down syndrome. Nothing you ate, didn’t eat or vitamin you forget to take caused your baby to be born with Down syndrome. If that thought has ever crossed your mind just take a deep breath, and let go of these thought because it’s not your fault that your child has Down syndrome. You were surprised by finding at your delivery that you having baby that has Down syndrome. You had no idea that your child was carrying an extra chromosome throughout your pregnancy. You had an ultrasound every week and there were no clues for you to know that your child will be born with Down syndrome. Before you even knew you were pregnant the genes were set in place and there was nothing you could have done to stop that extra chromosome. You had no control over what was happening, and you cannot pick and choose which egg will be used and not to be used. So what happened to your child is not your fault.
