Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most well-known leaders of the civil rights movement. He was an amazing man and inspired many people. His most popular speech is his "I have a Dream " speech. He also wrote a letter while inside the Birmingham Jail when he was arrested for his nonviolent protest against segregation. When reading "Letter from Birmingham Jail" one may notice that Martin Luther King Jr. used many instances of logos, ethos, pathos, and even kairos.
There was not any room for patience, only for change. Another captivating speaker is reputable Martin Luther King whom enticed a mass public with influential persuasive language. The iconic “I Have a Dream Speech” delivered at the March on Washington—same march John Lewis presented his speech—utilized a somewhat different approach. King’s speech depicted the life that was yearned for by so many.

Reading this letter has made me wonder how an eloquent man such as Martin Luther King be criticized, imprisoned and eventually assassinated. The issues of segregation have been well worn since Martin Luther King 's time, but his words still hold passion and wisdom. We should not just take Dr. King’s work for granted, but rather be grateful that he did what he did. I know that I personally am very thankful for him because I have many friends who are colored and would be treated differently today if he didn’t step into action. Without him, our world would be a very different place. Martin Luther King showed us that violence is not the answer. The truth is, he is exactly right.
Martin Luther King 's speech is still relevant today because all races are not yet equal. Although racism and segregation have somewhat "improved" from 1963 until now we can still see clear signs today that racism and inequality still exists. The idea of change and equality that Martin Luther King and other activists fought for was just the beginning of a revolution that has not yet ended. King expresses in his speech, that in order for us to achieve true freedom we need to be able to work together, pray together, and stand up for freedom together knowing that one day we will all be free. King states that we should not be comfortable with the idea of gradualism, where we gradually achieve a change, but we should make a change now.
