Every society must have a system of leadership, which can mean people must have power over others. The power that people accept is right can be identified as authority. The opposite of this is the term coercion, which can be defined as the power that people do not accept as just. There’s several different types of authorities such as traditional, rational-legal, charismatic, and transfer. Traditional authority is based upon customs, and can possibly decline with industrialization. In traditional authority, the value of authority comes from the tradition. The type of individuals believe that they have been touched by God or had even been endowed by nature with exceptional qualities. Charismatic leaders can inspire followers to disregard traditional and rational legal authorities. They also appeal to the emotions of the audience. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a charismatic leader who used his power to positive change in the lives of millions of people. These types of authority are still currently occurring in today’s modern society. In the world that we live in, there’s so many countries that have these kinds of authorities. Within my life, I find the traditional authority as major aspect in my family's household. A government is based upon executive types, such as monarchies, democracies, dictatorships, and oligarchies. A monarchy government is a form of government headed by a king of queen. The sovereign of a monarchy, is regularly the head of state, not the government. Monarchy was the most common form of government throughout the 13th century. Within the United States, the power remains with the people both on the state and federal levels as they elect representatives through the voting process. American citizens, participate in the legislative process, only through their elected representatives. Dictatorship is a form of government, where an individual may have the erg to seize power. If a group seizes power, the government will then be labeled as an oligarchy. In this type of government, if a group's favorable president becomes uncooperative, they remove that person from office and appoint another representative. Individuals under the government total control, this is referred as the term totalitarianism. A modern example of oligarchy today, is a type of government viewed in South Africa. The national party was the group which controlled African Americans. They contained elections of power within the government, but was only for white people in Africa. Sociologist refer to the people who has no say in their government's decision, or may have served been sentenced to prison, torture, or death are much needed.
