When you think of a human, an ordinary being comes to mind. Harmless, even weak is what you see a human as. But as a matter of fact, all humans have one thing that gives us phenomenal power. That thing is our words. Words have the potential to up-rise devastation, or bring absolute tranquility. Words have the potential to demoralize someone and ruin their lives, but words can also shine light into their eyes and give them strength. The era of the civil rights movement was a very dark and hectic time where words were not often of any effect. Martin Luther Is an exemplary example of someone who used his words to positively influence society, and also provoked some people to do bad things. One of his most acknowledged works is his "I have a dream" speech. Martin publicly read this speech to millions of people who were there in person, and also listened through broadcasts. This event was had the attention of people globally. After Martin gave out his "I have a dream" speech, there were many people who had changed their opinions about the racial segregation occurring in the United States, but it also led to violence. The upper class white men had obviously been infuriated by Martin's fast progression in the civil rights movement, and it had definitely angered members of the Klu Klux Klan. Another of his very eloquent works is his "Letter from Birmingham jail". This letter was directed towards the upper class white religious leaders.
