In the article “College Presidents Seek Debate on Drinking Age” the issue of lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18 is strongly discussed by college presidents and various organizations and Universities. Even though both parties agree that alcohol abuse in colleges is an extensive problem in schools around the country, college organizations are debating with lawmakers to lower the drinking age. With the intention to reduce driving accidents and deaths due to alcohol abuse, the drinking age was elevated to 21, creating the rejection of many college students and administrators in the country. Lowering the drinking age to 18 would not have much impact in the attitude of young people since there is no much difference in maturity in 3 years. This statement is supported by a Duke University sophomore from Singapore, where the drinking age is lower.
Mr. Chairman, judges, ladies and gentleman, todays motion is the oppositions of the current drinking age. We believe the drinking age should be lowered. First, the current alcohol culture is lethal to many young adults. Many college professors would argue the same point.
Sasha Williams was celebrating her 18th birthday at the hottest club in town. After all the drinking she did at the club she got behind the wheel of a vehicle and drove into a tree which caused her to have brain damage. This story is an example of what could happen if lawmakers consider lowering the drinking age. The United States should not legalize the law of lowering the drinking age to 18 because it leads to violent and destructive behavior, drinking and driving, and alcohol poisoning. The drinking age being lowered would not be beneficial to anyone 's life.
The eighteenth of June, 2015, just ten days after my eighteenth birthday my plane landed in Germany. By ten o’clock I was being offered a beer by a very attractive stranger. A jolt of excitement rushed through my body as I remembered it was legal for me to drink, in Germany. In 1984, Congress passed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act. This required the states to raise the legal drinking age to 21 by October 1986, failure to do so would result in the loss of ten percent of their federal highway funds.
One issue that I feel passionate about is the drinking age. I think that 21 is too old, however, I think that 18 is too young. It it were up to me I would make the drinking age 20. To start, 20 is a good age to allow people to begin drinking because once you hit 20 you are no longer a teennager. Even though 18 is legally when you become an adult, you are still a teenager, which means you are not an adult.
If young adults at the age of 18 are old enough to vote and enlist in the army, then why can they not purchase and consume alcohol? Over the years, the set drinking age has been a controversial topic among society. Some people believe the MLDA (Minimum Legal Drinking Age) should stay at the age of 21 because it is safer for their kids. However, lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18 would change the standards of alcohol as it encourages those of legal adulthood to make responsible decisions as adults, learn to control binge drinking and promote less automobile accidents. To further explain, 18 is the age of majority therefore young adults are mature enough to make their own decisions.
The United States should lower the drinking age since it being 21 doesn't stop anyone. In the 70s the drinking age was 18 and it didn't make anyone a criminal. It would also generate a lot of money and since they made the age 21 a lot of teens have been binge drinking. The fact that colleges support lowering the drinking age tells you that it isn't a bad idea. A few of the colleges that support it are some of the best colleges in the U.S. like Duke, Dartmouth, and many more.
Should We Lower the Drinking Age in America For many teens in America, the appearance of drinking lies as much in the peer pressure of the other people, then being alone. In some countries where alcohol is legal for teens to drink, that type of craziness does not exist. A reason why the drinking age should be lowered, is a conversation a friend who had returned from spring break last year. This person, and her friends drank and got drunk on weekends.
A lot people question whether the legal drinking age should be lowered, or remain at 21. Some may think it isn’t such a good idea, because of the lack of maturity, and others may think it a good idea, because some people are going to do it anyway. However there are many pros and cons of lowering the legal drinking age. One pro is that the actual age where a person is considered to be an adult is 18.
Should the legal age for alcohol consumption be lowered? In the United States, The legal drinking age is 21, but in my research, I have found that it is actually allowed, under certain circumstances and situations, to people of even lower age. Though all 50 US states have set their minimum drinking age to 21, exceptions do exist on a state-by-state basis for consumption at home, under adult supervision, for medical necessity, and other reasons. In fact, all but 5 states, Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, New Hampshire, and West Virginia, under age drinking is permitted. Parents are allowed to furnish alcohol to minors if they are under proper supervision.
Wil Fulton persuades anti drinkers in the article “Is It Time To Lower The Drinking Age To 18?”, that the drinking age should be lowered because of American’s rights. Eighteen year olds have several rights, so why should they not be able to drink? Fulton begins, “In America, eighteen year olds can vote, operate a motor vehicle, pay taxes, marry, become a legal guardian, own a gun, fight and die in a foreign country, and even become governor of the great state of Rhode Island. ” Alcohol should be the least of concerns when discussing rights of teenagers. Alcohol will not affect the lives of others whereas voting rights can.
To address this drinking age should not be lowered to 19. Many people in families think that drinking can harm their life. It’s people jobs to take care of your health and live a happy life with families and friends. Many parents take care of their children and evidence is that an average family spent $24,164 for paying for college and kids don’t know that. People of this world it is more important that you can be more efficient that you can be of not drinking.
Why drinking age should be lowered? If one is considered an adult at age eighteen in most of the country, are they not allowed to purchase and legally consume alcohol? The minimum legal drinking age needs to be lowered, and not just for that reason. The amount of teenagers with drinking problems and alcoholism is far greater than in Europe, where drinking ages are far lower. Also, studies show that the current minimum age drinking laws have been ineffective to a high degree.

The legal drinking age limit should stay at 21, it is a pretty mature age to handle alcohol and the age limit is always changing. Under aged kids always find a way to obtain alcohol, and often times parents do not care and they’ll buy their kids alcoholic drinks. Does this law really change anything?

Once 18, a person is legally considered an adult and should be able to drink.”
