Alcoholism is controversial because people think it is crime causing in America. The strongest counter-argument is in the religious aspect because not all people believe in Christ, which is suggesting alcohol is not religiously wrong. However, in my view, this point is wrong because alcohol is dangerous either way. Therefore, I maintain alcohol should have more laws and restrictions in America alone. Initially, alcohol can cause harm to oneself and other citizens. In the article "Monitoring Alcohol and Alcohol Related Problems in Sweden” , Andreasson, Sven, Nilsson, Brännström inform the whole Swedish community about monitoring the alcohol use because it can be harmful. The Swedish National Institute of Public Health (SNIPH), monitors the amount of alcohol people consume on a day to day basis. Andreasson, et al conclude, “...data includes alcohol related mortality and morbidity and alcohol related crime.” Alcohol is highly admired and it is causing alcohol related crimes, such as car accidents. People are getting hurt due to alcohol. The amount of people harmed in a society can be prevented by less alcohol consumption. …show more content…

Wil Fulton persuades anti drinkers in the article “Is It Time To Lower The Drinking Age To 18?”, that the drinking age should be lowered because of American’s rights. Eighteen year olds have several rights, so why should they not be able to drink? Fulton begins, “In America, eighteen year olds can vote, operate a motor vehicle, pay taxes, marry, become a legal guardian, own a gun, fight and die in a foreign country, and even become governor of the great state of Rhode Island.” Alcohol should be the least of concerns when discussing rights of teenagers.
