“Roughly a fifth of 16 and 17 year olds have drank heavily or do so often.” According to Sean Flynn. The legal drinking age in America is 21. If five out of every twenty five 16 or 17 year olds are drinking already, that is five out of 25 doing it illegally. The legal drinking age should be lowered because a man can risk his life in battle but can not drink at age 18. People are considered adults at the age 18 but do not get all the benefits, and lowering the legal drinking age can result in making it safer in the long run.
Men are forced to sign up for the draft at age 18 to go risk their lives in battle for this country and women have the ability to choose to go into service for our country, but cannot get an alcoholic drink. Under current …show more content…

Kids and young adults are just naturally rebellious. If you tell them they cannot do something, it makes them want to do it 10 times more. If you tell them they cannot go to their friends house it will make them want to sneak out, if you tell them they cannot have the candy bar out of the pantry they will want to eat it more, if you tell them they cannot drink alcohol watch out, because they will want to drink alcohol way more. The age group of about 16-20 are hard headed and if they want something they will get it, and if you get in their way they will find a way around you. So if we just take this and teach them safely we can avoid this problem of them doing it unsafely. According to Will Fulton, “The level of respect and control of young Europeans had when they drank. Their explanation was they had been exposed to alcohol almost their entire lives, as enjoying a glass of wine at dinner is not uncommon for children as young as 12.” Brandon Griggs of CNN says when asked about the minimum legal drinking age in the U.S., “8 or maybe even 6.” This age will be a good start to teaching them safely while they do not have the urge to drink so much.
