How soon is it safe to drive after a seizure?
Most of us are lucky enough to have the freedom to drive with a license. We drive to work, run errands, and use the car for social engagements, but, what about those who have had seizures? According to the leaflet Driving When You Have Had Seizures (nd), driving uses skills, and changes in our physical, emotional and mental condition can affect one’s ability to drive (National Highway Safety Administration (nhtsa). This paper will talk about the different types of seizures, the causes, and restrictions on driving after having a seizure.

A second generalized seizure can cause convulsions or muscle slackness as it does when having a generalized seizure. There are six types of generalized seizures. Grand mal or tonic-clonic seizures are the most noticeable; the body stiffens, twitches and shakes – one can lose consciousness, one can bite one’s tongue, and lasts about one to three minutes.
