There are more plausible solutions such as a lack of medical knowledge, convulsive
When James was younger, he suffered from psychosomatic, or stress-induced seizures, similar to epileptic
People of all ages can get it and a significant sign of diagnosing the condition is experiencing two or more seizures in a 24 hour period (“The Epilepsies” 2016). Although there is no cure for epilepsy, the condition can be controlled with anticonvulsants drugs. I personally have prior knowledge to the condition from my AP Biology class. I immediately thought of my senior year of high school, when I first was taught about epilepsy. My friend Nadine showed us a documentary which showed a old man who would suddenly fall out of consicouness during his daily tasks; I remember this documentary very well because it was a scary sight for me
Partial Seizures is a condition that causes repeated seizures. Generalized Seizures takes place on both sides of the brain. Anything that affects the body also may disturb the brain and lead to a seizure. For example, fever, brain defect present at birth, brain infection, stroke,
People cannot diagnose CTE until an autopsy has taken place, and they diagnose it with Tau protein. CTE is believed to have four stages that affect the human body. These stages are dangerous because many victims think it’s normal aging, and then they catch it too late (“What is CTE”). The first stage might not come until months to years after the head trauma. This stage includes bad headaches and
We all love our children, but what if our child had a problem with seizures. My girlfriend has a little girl. I would say plagued; Pandy would say difficult to handle. Jennifer is a sweet little girl, and I love her to death. She has was born with a condition called hydrocephalus: a condition where there is a build-up of spinal fluid in the brain.
Short: Concussions and neurodegenerative conditions Descriptive: Modern studies point the link between concussions and the development of neurodegenerative conditions Summary: People who experience a concussion encounter problems with memory and concentration during the whole life. Recent studies confirm that concussions can lead to development of neurodegenerative conditions, such as dementia and Alzheimer's disease later in life. Injuries of the nervous system are of great importance. They are common in war, but also in peacetime, particularly because of the large number of road accidents and accidents at work nowadays. A concussion is a minor brain injury caused by mechanical forces that lead to temporary brain dysfunction.
These are blows to the head where an athlete may experience just one or even no concussion symptoms. They seem insignificant and many have no immediate effect, but over time the build upon each other. These blows combined with concussions cause life altering diseases such as CTE, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s. Many people are familiar with Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s, you probably know someone who suffers from these diseases. CTE on the other hand was only discovered in 2002 by Dr. Bennett Omalu.
A couple of the conditions you can get are Epilepsy in which you will have seizures. Another possibility is second impact syndrome which causes your brain to faitily swell up. Second impact syndrome is the most dangerous condition because it is when your first concussion doesn't heal correctly and your body loses its ability to be able to control the pressure of your brain so it lets your brain swell up which may lead to death. Recovery in this stage will take longer this time because you need give your brain time to rest and not be active for a while. If you are in sports and this is the second one you have received, you may want to stop playing the sport or move on to another
Outline Format Title: The Dangers of Epilepsy Name: Martin Ortega Class: COMS 105 Date: 4/11/17 Specific Purpose: At the end of my speech, the audience will understand what epilepsy is, what the symptoms are, and how it is treated. Preview of Main Points: I am briefly going to discuss what epilepsy is and how it is caused, the symptoms and warning signs of epileptic seizures, and the best treatments for epilepsy. Introduction
Social influences were also a big factor in my episode of seizing. My best friend went to find help, the teachers helped carry me into a different room, and everyone that was near stopped what they were doing to crowd over me. Once I was in the different room an upperclassman, which had been diagnosed with epilepsy, explained that after she seizes she would always throw up too. She told me that it was all going to be fine, and that really helped me. Developmental influences also have occurred.
1. Introduction Absence Seizures have been a medical concern for a long time, and were first described in medical literature back in 1705 by Poupart (Temkin, 1971). According to The World Health Organization (WHO) at least 40 forms of epilepsy have been identified, and they are characterized by an abrupt and transitory synchronization of neuron activities, whose causes are not always well known. 2.
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” - World Health Organisation, 1946. Although there have been a number of ground breaking discoveries in science as a whole I strongly believe more can be done within neurology. Epilepsy affects more than 500,000 people in the UK that is almost one in every 100 people. I wish to study neuroscience as I would like to look into conditions such as this but also explore into neuroaesthetics. Having a close family member being diagnosed with epilepsy, I have been exposed to the fundamental importance of how to deal with seizures.
Q1: An altered state of consciousness (or ASC, for short) can be best defined as a mental state in which your ability to process certain feelings and thoughts is highly compromised, often to the point that you are aware of your own uncharacteristic behaviour. When we are experiencing life through our normal state of consciousness (or NSC), we internalise and understand varying forms of stimuli simultaneously, with both the emotional and logical sides of our brain working in tandem to best comprehend the world around us. To this end, an ASC can be simply defined as the absence of our NSC, brought about by any number of different factors.
Historical background of epilepsy: The history of epilepsy is intervened with the history of humanity. The first descriptions of epileptic seizures can be traced back to 2,000 B.C. Later reports on epilepsy can also be found in ancient Egyptian medical texts and in ancient Babylonian texts. The Hammurabi code also refers to epilepsy. The code states that the person with epilepsy could not marry, or testify in court.
