There are many illnesses which can cause an individual to experience debilitating problems. Epilepsy is one of those illnesses which can cause an individual to lose all control of their body. If you are not familiar with what epilepsy is let me explain, there are nerve cells within the brain and these nerve cells have electrical activity. What happens with epilepsy is this electrical activity fires at a rate up to four times higher than its normal rate. This increase in fire activity causes a squall within the brain, which then causes what is known as a seizure.

He gave up driving, he could not hold a job and he moved back in with his parents to help when he had a seizure. So, he had a brain implant/stimulator surgically placed into his brain to help reduce his seizure activity. What the implant does interrupt the electrical activity in the brain, which caused him to have the seizures. This has been a lifesaving treatment for him because of the lifestyle changes he had to make. Having seizures frequently can cause some severe problems for those who have them. They are scary and debilitating for those who have them and if there can be a reduction in the amount of seizures a person has then it is a great treatment. Even though most people who suffer from seizure activity are on drug therapy it doesn’t seem to work as well as the implant treatment. So, the future implications for this type of treatment is great and I’m sure those who suffer from this illness would love to see this be the main treatment for this problem.
