DWA: Personal Statement Essay What’s to come after high school? How are the choices you make today going to affect the outcome of your future life? These are the kind of questions I asking myself everyday. After I finish school I’m off into the sinking abyss of “Adulthood”. All though it was terrifying at first, I made the proper plan to set me up for success and even make being an adult a little bit easier. I always make sure to look back on my past and put that into my options. I will one day have to take care of myself no matter what is to come. I look up to my father, grandfather and my Uncle more than anyone in the world. My father is a U.S Navy veteran who served four years, active duty from 2009-2013. His demeanor and attitude has had great effects on who I am today. Although most people say “I want to be just like my dad when I grow up” I can genuinely say, “This is the type of man I want to be”. While my father was stationed in the Middle East my grandfather filled that roll of a father figure for my siblings and I. Till this day I still look to him as a father figure. Seeing how selfless my grandfather is has taught me a lot. The world isn’t always about you, it’s about lending a helping hand even when you’re struggling yourself. My Uncle Josh has also had a major impact on the person I am today. He enlisted around the same time as my father and continues to be part of the U.S Navy till this day. He been nominated for the USO Leadership award for the many selfless acts he has made in his time in Afghanistan and for the hours of community service he’s given. He is responsible for the safety of man wounded U.S Army soldiers and countless other life threatening moments where he stepped in and gave assistance to those who needed it the most. He is what I model my life after. I want to be that selfless person that he is and help those in need. He is the primary reason I will enlist into the U.S
