Why are the government doing this to the Oregonian ranchers Dwight and Steve Hammond? The ranchers starting a fires on federal land near their ranch were convicted of federal arson charges. The father and son received both a pair sentences which by the way they served. But here is where it gets confusing the United States attorney case called foul and government ruling that Dwight and Steve Hammond will be given the seriousness of arson, a five year sentence disproportionate to the offense and each individual will serve out their five-years not including the first sentence that they already served. Second charges for the ranchers are defensive measure, to protect the ranch from an approaching lightning-sparked wildfire during 2006. The Hammond’s case is being going for years, both went under a provision of a federal law punishing terrorism. The ranchers Dwight and Steve Hammond was sentenced twice plus another five years each for an arson charges that both of them were already did a time on the first conviction. Even though that the men’s served their time their case turned out and was far from over. Hammond supporters did not agree on the prosecutor’s final result on the case over the two fires. When the Hammond’s were charge with a serious crime in 2010 on federal arson charges, facing sentence under the federal Antiterrorism. Both ranchers were treated as terrorists. In 2014 the Hammond’s agreed to pay $400,000 to settle and the next year both were given the seriousness of arson. The ranchers have become a rallying for militia and patriot group after another. The re-sentencing the Hammond’s builds tension against the United States government because the ranchers were being prosecuted for terrorism, inflamed the anti-government patriot and militia
