Have you ever wondered what it takes to become the President of the United States? Many times a strong military background was the first step to being a strong leader. Dwight Eisenhower played an important part in World War II, which showed fellow republicans that Eisenhower had what it took to be the president of our great nation! After some persuasion from fellow republicans, Dwight D. Eisenhower came up with the catchy slogan of “I like Ike” to start his successful presidential campaign. Eisenhower soon became one of the nation's greatest presidents. He was born on October 14,1890 in Denison Texas, and died on March 28, 1969 in Washington DC. He was our 34th president.
Eisenhower was 5 star general in World War II, and became a full general in early 1943. He made many successful invasions. When he was put in as head he got to be the one who did a lot of the important planning for the attack on the Nazi-occupied Europe. That invasion then led to the invasion of Paris on August 25, which was also successful. His quotes for battle were very inspirational and helped the troops move along and have confidence in themselves. “ You are about to embark on a great crusade on which you have striven many months. The eyes of the world are upon you, I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle.”

Eisenhower continued programs established by previous presidents, such as the Fair Deal. Increasing minimum wage and enhancing the social security system was among the few areas which he made better. After forming the Interstate HIghway System, 41,000 public roads were built.
