In Rick Riordan’s novel, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a troubled adolescent does not really know what to think of his life as he has constantly been expelled from schools across New York. The protagonist in which the novel is named for appears to suffer from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and dyslexia which come off as disabilities in the real-world. Riordan’s casting of ADHD and dyslexia as markers for demi-god status created an atmosphere for the readers that possessing one or both of these qualities does not guarantee failure and that it is possible to succeed.
