“We” by Yevgeny Zamyatin was a book written about a dystopian society and one individual experience through it all. Even though the book’s society was not real I found that there government had a few similarities with our government. Some of the similarities include numbers as names, being like a machine and the Ancients. In the book each of the characters have names that are a bit peculiar, for example D-503, I-330 and O-90. Here is a part in the book that shows this which is on page 146 “This is D-503, the Builder of the Integral.” At first I thought that this was just a different way and naming someone, but the more I though about it the more I realized that it is similar to how our government operates. This is a quote on page 119 about being like a machine “I am like a machine being driven to excessive rotations.” I found that this was similar to our government today. To every individual we are all doing our own thing, but on a larger scale we are all operating as one. We are all going to school or work to perform a service to get money, we are all part of one whole working together just like a machine. In “We” this was made more clear to make a point but it is still similar to what is going on
